To Do Prior to Auditions:
What to expect at auditions:
- Auditions will be conducted in groups. Please arrive a few minutes before your scheduled audition group.
You will be asked to read sides from the show. You will find the list of sides here. Please choose up to 2 sides to read in auditions. - They can be one from each character. You may also be asked to read additional sides.
- If you cannot attend the audition date in person, please contact the director to schedule a separate time or arrange a video audition.
- If the audition slots are full at the time of your sign up, please contact the director to arrange a video audition.
A note about Helen and Annie’s casting:
Helen is deaf, blind, and non-verbal for most of the play, so portraying her requires a remarkable level of physical expression, emotional nuance, and often intense physicality. There is a fight scene between Helen and Annie that requires focus and concentration. Please be aware of this when considering your audition for Helen AND Annie. As there are no sides to read for Helen, you may be asked to communicate any set of emotions, such as fear, joy, frustration, or curiosity without using words. You may be given prompts like: “You are hungry but no one understands you,” or “You want to play but are confused by the world.” and asked to demonstrate. If you are called back for Helen or Annie, you may be asked to participate in some basic fight choreography to test chemistry and balance between both parts.
